Saparkour
A downloadable game for Windows
Saparkour, my second game, is the result of a 14-day-long game jam I had the opportunity to participate in.
With this game, I had the objective of creating a new experience. I wanted the player to have bigger stakes on his or her actions when playing a standard, cute-looking platform game. This is why you both need to get the right amount of jump force by holding the jump button and you cannot move on air, meaning you need to aim well where you want to go. Also, if the frog hits something on air (say, a wall), it will bounce on it, creating new possibilities of movement for each player.
However, I still wanted the player to be able to have fun and just chill playing the game should he or she want to. This is why I made this a speedrun game (for those who want to compete and tryhard) but also a game with checkpoints, which don't restore your time but allow you to progress on your own pce.
With the mindset of creating different experiences, I wanted the player to be able to vary their challenges, which is why I created an exception to the on-air movement system: the frog has a grappling tongue. With the tongue, the frog can move mid-air, which allows for many new acrobacies.
This game had some inspirations in its design:
TrackMania: inspired me to create mechanics and levels where precise movement is necessary, but with low stakes on each error (in both cases, you can just restart).
Fall guys: inspired me not only on the looks but on making a on-foot racing game
Jump king: inspired me to raise stakes on the jump mechanic
Getting over it: the final level's name is no coincidence. It is made to be challenging and to make the player test his or her resilience - just like in the game.
Elden ring: a hard game, where every move needs to be calculated. In both games, if you want to be competitive, you know stakes will be high. Also, both games feature many but a little cryptic tutorials, made purposefully so in order to let the player enjoy the process of realization.
